Beauty and the Beast

This was a great production with very talented performers and stage crew, wonderful sets and costumes and an awesome orchestra. Also, including the beautiful artwork of Melissa Beth Sumby, the designer. I had a lot of fun on this project and hope to do another one like this soon. Everyone was very friendly and professional, especially Kevin Buck, the director. (Thanks, Eve and Cory)

The Beast

After taking a facecast of the actor, I sculpted the Beast's face on it. I wanted to make the Beast makeup in foam latex to get a full range of movement and expression. The teeth are just there to get an idea of what the final pieces will look like. I had to keep the sculpture clear of the actor's mouth so he could sing without any obstructions.

Here is the actor in the completed makeup and wig. The teeth are made of dental acrylic and glued into the prosthetic. He also has latex fingers inside leather gloves and latex toes attached to the end of his shoes to look like they've ripped out.

I pre-painted the prosthetic and added a furry layer with an electrostatic flocking gun. Then, I hand-laid the eyebrows. I did all of that before I even went to the greenroom to begin makeup. When the two foam latex pieces were glued on and the makeup and teeth were added, I glued on the two side hair pieces. Then, the headpiece was worn that had the wig, horns and ears attached.

Cogsworth

Here is the sculpture of the Cogsworth headpiece. I molded it and cast it up in latex. I hand-painted and airbrushed it and finished it with a glossy sealer.

This is the completed makeup and headpiece. The clock hands were made of craft foam and attached to the latex nose piece. Then the nose tip was glued on to the actor.

Lumiere

This is Lumiere. I made and painted the latex head (topped with a wick) and the latex nose tip.

Character noses

Nose sculpts. Top left: Lumiere's nose. Top right: LeFou's nose. Bottom: Cogsworth's nose.

In the greenroom

Here is a pic of me doing Babette the featherduster's makeup.
